   𝓘.n this chapter, we will discuss how to start planning your applyfics, particularly focusing on plot and slot building.

𖡙 ⎯⎯⎯⎯ 𝓞.NE ≀ I WANT TO START AN APPLYFIC. HOW DO I START❔
So you want to start an applyfic? Okay, cool. Stop. BEFORE you even think about starting aesthetics or slots or rules or anything, add a chapter, name it plans, and start planning your applyfic. YOU CAN NOT SKIP THIS PART.

I made the mistake of not planning in advance when I first made applyfics, and I regretted it so much. If you have just a little bit of an idea for an applyfic and start it, you might have the beginning part down and write it, but eventually, you are going to lose motivation and end up ending it early or just giving up altogether. Trust me, I did that with my first applyfic, Question, because I didn't plan it correctly.

𖡙 ⎯⎯⎯⎯ 𝓣.WO ≀ WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PLANS❔
In your plans, write down everything that you can think of. If you think you can just remember little details and big ideas about the fic, you're probably wrong. According to simplepsychology.org, "Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short-term memory." That's not a very big number, and I'm guessing that you have a life outside of your applyfic and Wattpad, so just write it down. Please. Here are some ideas to help you get started on planning:

✸ 𝑰. A basic idea of what the story will be
✸ 𝑰𝑰. The slots, including their names, age ranges, personalities if you want, role in the story, etc
✸ 𝑰𝑰𝑰. How many chapters you'd like in the book
✸ 𝑰𝑽. A general idea of what will happen in each chapter
✸ 𝑽. A timeline of the events in the story
✸ 𝑽𝑰. The voting and ranking systems ❪ for survival applyfics ❫
✸ 𝑽𝑰𝑰. The missions and songs ❪ for survival applyfics ❫
✸ 𝑽𝑰𝑰𝑰. Your characters ❪ if you have any ❫

Of course, these are just suggestions, so include anything you want or think you might need!

Honestly, this is probably the part of planning that I love the most — the characters! Slots and ocs are the lifelines of applyfics, so it's important that we plan them out so that the appliers will know how to make their ocs. Depending on the author, how someone goes about writing slots will differ, so I'll only include a few quick tips! You can put as much or as little detail into your slot, so don't feel pressured to write a whole biography on each slot just because someone else does! Slots can literally just be a name and age if you want. For story-based applyfics, I recommend writing a short paragraph about what kind of character you're looking for, including a little about their personality and background. You can even have little bullet points about certain traits that they need. Another thing you can do is add little details that you want to be included in the forms, such as certain school subjects they're good or bad at, what their love interest should be like, or an important fact about them, depending on what kind of af you're making.

If you're planning on making a story-based applyfic, interactive applyfic, or anything like that, the story is obviously going to be pretty important. While it's good to have a basic synopsis of your plot, you need more before you hit the Publish button. After you write your slots, one of the best suggestions that I have for you is to just start writing out what you'd like to happen in each chapter of the applyfic. It might seem tedious or boring, but trust me, when you're a couple of chapters in and you're hit with writer's block, having this basic guide can be quite the lifesaver. You don't want to write down everything about each chapter, but have a couple of sentences or a paragraph as to what will happen and which slots will be featured in that chapter. I personally like to plan out at least 3/4 or the full story even, but if you want to, you can wait until you get the ocs to plan the whole plot. I'd recommend at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the story though, so you have somewhere to start once the af fills up.

Basically, if you get anything from this chapter, PLAN YOUR APPLYFICS BEFORE YOU PUBLISH THEM. okay, that's it. The next chapter will be about survival applyfics in particular!
